The Indian government on Thursday released 46 Pakistani fishermen out of the promised 51. These fishermen will be received by a delegation of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) at the Wagah border today.

FCS Administrator Abdul Saeed Khan told The News that they had been provided a list of 51 fishermen who were supposed to be released on the occasion of Eidul Fitr. But, due to unnecessary delays in the verification process of their citizenship, they spent extra time in jail. Now, he informed, they had received a letter asking the FCS to receive these people on Friday morning at the Wagah border.

The cooperative society will bear all their expenses for their safe travel to their native villages.

Out of these fishermen, 17 belong to Kharo Chhan, Chach Jahan Khan and Ladyoon coastal areas of Thatta district, while 29 are from Karachi.

An FCS delegation comprising three officials, including Manager Rafiq Suleman, Secretary Board Mohammed Abid Arfeen and Community Welfare Officer Ghulam Rasool Shaikh will receive the released fishermen.
