A thunderclap for peace

On Aug 14 and 15, Indians and Pakistanis around the globe will jointly commemorate #IndiaPakistanDay on social media, and pray or meditate for peace between the two countries

A ‘thunderclap’ is the latest among the social media campaigns to commemorate India and Pakistan’s Independence Days, Aug 14 and 15, highlighting the people’s desire for peaceful relations between the two hostile neighbours.

The virtual initiative comes from young Indian entrepreneur Amrit Sharma who started IndiaLovesPakistan.com. Sharma also launched an ‘India or Pakistan’ Android app earlier this year, in February. Featured on Aman ki Asha, the app has already been downloaded over 170,000 times – a “huge success,” says Sharma.

Now Sharma wants to do a joint #IndiaPakistanDay celebration through a social media ‘thunderclap’ with the message:

“We want to live by each other’s happiness, not each other’s misery. #IndiaPakistanDay”

People who go to this link will be able to share this quote from their social media accounts — “We want to live by each other’s happiness, not each other’s misery. #IndiaPakistanDay”.

“We want people to join us to share this quote at the exact same time on Independence Day,” says Sharma.

Supporters may also add a personal message. On Aug 14-15, the app will simultaneously share posts from all those who sign on – a virtual ‘thunderclap’.

Another joint initiative using the two countries’ Independence Days is the Pray for Peace idea, using the concept of the power of collective prayer. Organisers are urging people to spend as little or as long as they want on Aug 14-15 to pray or meditate in their own ways for peace between the two hostile neighbours.
