Upcoming peace calendar: call for entries

Indo-Pak Peace Calendar 2018: Call for paintings — last date: 25 September 2017

The India-Pakistan youth group Aaghaz-e-Dosti has issued a call for art entries for its upcoming Peace Calendar published annually since 2012. The calendar features 12 selected paintings by school students across India and Pakistan. One of its unique features is that every year it is launched at seminars held in several cities of both countries, participated in by prominent citizens who also share their thoughts.

Additionally, well known personalities working on peacebuilding from both countries also send in special messages.

Students, teachers and schools interested in participating must follow these guidelines:

* The theme of the calendar is “Indo-Pak Peace and Friendship”.

* Students of class 8 to 11 may participate.

* The painting must be original

* The artwork should be made on A4 size paper.

* Use poster colors

* Please write the student’s name, class, email (if available), school and painting caption/description on the reverse side of the painting

The deadline for submissions is 25 September 2017

Paintings need to be sent by post or scanned and emailed to [email protected] (email for postal address). All participants will receive a certificate of acknowledgement. Students whose paintings are selected will be presented a copy of the calendar, a certificate of achievement and a token of appreciation.

The organisers hope that the calendar, “a collection of shared dreams and hopes for friendship” will be a daily reminder of these aspirations.

They also invite volunteers to help contact and coordinate with schools, design work and at the calendar launch events. Volunteers will also receive a certificate of appreciation.

Over the last five years, Aaghaz-e-Dosti has received a great response to these calendars. Students from almost all corners, states and provinces of India and Pakistan have sent in paintings and launch events in both countries, participated in by hundreds from all walks of life, have received wide media coverage.

Special messages have come in from prominent people like Dr S. N. Subbarao, Kamla Bhasin, Dr Syeda Hameed, Col Virender Sahai, Gen Ashok Mehta, Dr Shashi Tharoor, Vishwajyoti Ghosh, Pankaj Chaturvedi, Dr Dhananjay Tripathi, Shailja Kejriwal, Ram Mohan Rai, Dr Meenakshi Chhabra, Dr D. S. Rana, Javed Naqvi, Deepak Malviya, Dr Chaman Lal, (late) Sh. Pankaj Singh, Air Vice Marshall (retd) Kapil Kak, Raza Rumi, Beena Sarwar, I. A. Rehman, Dr Mubashir Hasan, Karamat Ali, B. M. Kutty, Saeeda Diep, Sheema Kermani, Anwar Jafri, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad, and Saeed Ahmed Rid among others.

In addition to peace calendars, Aaghaz-e-Dosti conducts regular activities on peace education, like Aman Chaupals, Classroom Connect, Indo-Pak Open Mic,besides advocacy, research and documentation, online peace building campaigns, and peace blogs.
