NEW DELHI(IBNS): Two media giants of India and Pakistan have come together to launch a ‘people-to-people’ initiative to bring the people of the two countries ‘culturally, emotionally and peacefully’ closer together. The initiative has been named ‘aman ki asha’ (Desire for Peace).

India’s The Times of India and the Jang group of Pakistan are scheduled to start with a series of cross-border cultural interactions, business seminars, music and literary festivals that are aimed to bring the common men closer to each other outside warring politicians and terrorists.

As part of the initiative, concerts with both Indian and Pakistani artistes have been organized across the country. An annual trade meet will be held to promote bilateral business.

Thousands of school children from India will send messages of peace and love to their counterparts in Pakistan and some of these students will also visit the neighbouring country.

According to an editorial in the Times of India, the initiative aims ‘not to let the history of India and Pakistan dominate the future’.
