Peoples of Pakistan, India want peace
Delegates at the PIPFPD conference on 'Understanding Pakistan" held in Delhi recently.

Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy which is the largest people to people organization of the two countries held a two day conference on ‘Understanding Pakistan Today’ in Delhi in the first week of March. The conference marked the 20th Anniversary of the forum.

The conference was attended by the opinion-makers of the two countries belonging to journalism, academia, and human rights activists. The Pakistan delegation was led by founding PIPFPD President I. A. Rehman and peace activist Prof. Dr. Haroon Ahmed. The Indian side was led by PIPFPD President Dr. Asha Hans and Tapan Bose. Rita Manchanda was the conference coordinator. Inaugural address was by the unbeatable promoter of peace between the two countries Mani Shankar Aiyar.

In six working sessions stretched over two days, a broad spectrum of issues were discussed with Pakistani participants presenting papers that their Indian counterparts were discussants of. Many student activists of prestigious Indian universities also participated in the intellectually stimulating sessions.

The general consensus of the conference participants was that it helped the Indian participants to better their understanding about the moderate peace-loving Pakistan that is beyond the extremist and terrorists’ narrative generally presented by the media.
