When the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan sent gifts to each other’s mothers….

Many people have appreciated and taken hope from the exchange of gifts between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who sent presents to each other’s mothers.

Last Thursday Modi thanked Sharif for gifting his mother a “wonderful” white sari

“Nawaz Sharif ji has sent a wonderful white Sari for my Mother. I am really grateful to him & will send it to my Mother very soon,” Modi tweeted.

modi-shawlEarlier Modi had sent a shawl for Sharif’s mother when they met at Modi’s inauguration in New Delhi. Shortly afterwards Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif tweeted, “Thank u v much PM @narendramodi for the beautiful shawl for my grandmother. My father personally delivered it to her.”

The shawl appears to be a result of a personal exchange that the two Prime Ministers had when they met, that Modi tweeted about.

“Nawaz Sharif ji told me that he stays in Islamabad but goes to meet his Mother once in a week,” he tweeted.

During one such visit, Sharif told Modi that they were watching television and saw visuals of Modi’s mother offering her son sweets.

“The visuals touched both Nawaz Sharif ji & his Mother. He told me that after seeing the visuals his Mother got very emotional,” Modi tweeted. Personal connections make all the difference. That is why we say ‘Milne Do’ – let people meet.
