NAGPUR: Youth delegates from five countries including Pakistan are expected to participate in a major model United National (MUN) conference being held in Maharashtra’s second capital Nagpur in May.

The Nagpur MUN 2015 will be held on May 30-31 with four committees to discuss important issues.

Aman ki Asha, the peace initiative launched by the Times of India and Jang Group Pakistan on January 1, 2010, features in a special committee of the same name. Some 40 youth delegates from India including 20 from Jammu and Kashmir will meet with 20 youth delegates from Pakistan to discuss contentious issues.

The organisers say this is an effort to bring all stake holders on a common platform and see if the youth can come up new solutions to the age-old problem.

The four committees being simulated at the Nagpur MUN are: General Assembly, World Health Organization, Human Rights Council and Aman ki Asha.

The MUN is a conference for students where each participant is allotted a country in a specific committee with an international conflict agenda. It is an opportunity to learn diplomatic skills, international law and foreign policies. The forthcoming conference, taking place in Nagpur for the first time ever, is being organized on a massive scale.

“We are organizing MUN on behalf of United Nations to spread it awareness across the city. MUN is pretty common concept in all the metro cities of India. At Nagpur’s MUN, we are gathering delegates mostly from Nagpur, across India and three to five more countries,” said Rutwik Joshi, general secretary Nagpur MUN, in a media statement.

The MUN is an educational simulation and academic competition in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. It involves and teaches research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. The Nagpur MUN is being held at Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE), Wanadongri.
