Aman ki Asha ambassador Aisam to meet flood survivors

KARACHI: Pakistan’s tennis ace Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, the National Goodwill Ambassador of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will be visiting the sites of Hunza and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday (today) to meet flood victims.

Aisam’s aim of visiting the devastated areas is to support the UNDP’s cause of rehabilitation the flood recipients. In addition his objective is to raise as much funds as he can in order to contribute in the reconstruction of houses and for the well-being of the local people.

The Attabad Lake which formed accidentally left thousands of people homeless and helpless when it spilled over a few months back. The initiative of rehabilitation was taken up by UNDP who built several homes and camps to accommodate the victims.

Aisam, who is also the ambassador of Aman ki Asha, became an international celebrity when he reached the finals of doubles and mixed doubles of the US Open earlier this year.

The player has been busy in promoting peace and harmony with his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna under the banner of ‘Aman Ki Asha’ – a joint initiative of Jang Group and Times of India.

The goodwill visit is coordinated by the UNDP Islamabad office which will be taking the player to the devastated sites in their helicopter.
