India has appreciated Pakistan’s “generous gesture” of rescuing eleven Indian citizens from Yemen, flown to India on a special Pakistan Air Force aircraft

India has appreciated Pakistan’s “generous gesture” of evacuating 11 of its nationals from strife-torn Yemen and flying them home by a special aircraft.

“It was a very positive, good, generous gesture,” Indian foreign secretary S. Jaishankar told reporters in New Delhi. “Pakistan took great trouble and we need to appreciate that.”

Pakistan navy ship PNS Aslat on Saturday evacuated the 11 Indians along with 35 other foreigners and 148 Pakistanis from Yemen’s southeastern city of Mokallah, which is now almost entirely under control of al-Qaida fighters.

The evacuees were brought to Karachi.

The Indians were flown to Delhi on Wednesday on a Pakistan Air Force plane.

High Commissioner of Pakistan Abdul Basit received them at New Delhi International airport and presented them flowers and souvenirs.

The Indian foreign secretary said that crises like the one in Yemen provide an opportunity for countries to work together. Jaishankar also noted that India has also evacuated 409 nationals of 32 countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
